It's pretty straightforward.
This is going with their entire body of work.
Overall, I think I'd have to go with Nolan for his body of work. I've never finished a movie of his that I didn't like (I never finished Insomnia). He's 5-5 in my book.
Christopher Nolan.

Memento Insomnia Batman Begins The Prestige The Dark Knight Inception
That's the best run of films in succesion of any director in history in my opinion. I can't wait for The Dark Knight Rises.

Both of you guys forgot about "Following". It's not bad for a low budget first film.

I know that Nolan is probably the superior director, but my heart lies with Tarantino. Also, not that I was gonna vote him (cause he made Avatar), but shouldn't James Cameron be on that list?

I think that prior to Titanic he should have been on the list; but since then he has subjected us to serious abuse.
But, his love for masculine women has provided a movie sanctuary for feminists of the world so credit to his early work.

True that, but Termiantor 2, Alien and Aliens are still some of the most genius movies of all time for me.

There is no doubt about that!

But, I digress and say that Cameron had no involvement in Alien. We can, however, replace "Alien" with "Rambo: First Blood Part II" which is a staple of '80s action cinema. =)

Actually, he wrote the first draft of Rambo: Part II, then Stallone re-wrote all of it. You could saw Piranha II: The Spawning though.
Cameron is a great filmmaker, I wouldn't take that from him, but I'd say his last great movie was T2. True Lies was fine, but when I see James Cameron make a film, I expect more than a usual action film. Titanic was made for the masses and worked and Avatar is actually a bad film.
Just my 2 cents though.
