Ok so as the old fart around here I've been around games for a looooong time.
Way back when all that was available on our green monochrome IBM PC was Space Invaders and PACMAN.
I think the first driving game I ever played was called Donkey.
Haha found it on YouTube
Ok so all you could do was hit Spacebar and change lanes to get out of the way of the donkey.
Riveting stuff.
I could ramble on forever about the first time I played this and the first time I played that, but I won't.
I was more thinking about comparing the PSX and PS2 games to the PS3 games.
(I've never had an Xbox but the same applies for those games I suppose)
PSX and PS2 games seemed to last a lot longer than the PS3 games.
I remember me and my girlfriend playing the first Dino Crisis, Resident Evil 1-3 and Silent Hill 1 for hours and days and weeks on end.
You'd be stuck on that one puzzle or had to run around and collect ammo, herbs, whatever it was before you could move on.
When you FINALLY got through that door in to a new room it was like christmas.
New things to look at and doors that wouldn't open and more riddles to be solved.
But now it seems a lot of games have gone away from that and they all seem to be trying to outdo eachother with freeroaming, clever AI, amazing graphics and all these "credits" to collect.
Trophies and scoreboards seems to me more important than creating a challenging game.
RE5 was a prime example of this.
While it was a good game, it wasn't Resident Evil.
And I felt the same with Silent Hill Homecoming.
Anyone feel the same?
All that said I am constantly amazed at the graphics and controls of the new generation of games and can't wait to see what comes next.
EDIT: Realized I was an idiot and never made a Video Games section, even though I thought I did.
Moved thread to the correct section.
