Just in case you guys didn't see the post over at the other forum (WalkingDeadWorld), here it is.
So on Saturday I went on this tour given by Atlanta Movie Tours called "The Big Zombie Tour" -- it was a 4 hour bus tour around Atlanta to see filming locations from The Walking Dead (season 1). I had no idea what to expect, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so much fun and I totally nerded out the entire time. I thought you guys might like to see some pics and hear some tidbits.
First off, the tour guide was a zombie on the show -- she was the short-haired woman who was sitting in the parked car "asleep" and then woke up when Glenn slipped past on the sidewalk... episode 2 I think? She had all sorts of cool stories about filming the show and about all the sites we went to.
Sonya Thompson, our tour guide. She did the noises and the walk and attacked my friend. I actually sorta jumped a little. It was awesome.
Her on the show:
This is the Jackson Street Bridge overlooking the interstate - you'll recognize it as the cover of the DVDs and the posters, etc - the highway where the iconic image of Rick on the horse riding into Atlanta took place. Actually, Rick riding the horse was filmed nearby next to the train tracks & then they CGId it onto the highway shot. There was a stupid chick in the group who said, “What’s CGI?” *face palm*
And the actual shot from the show:
Obviously they've done some construction since then but there it is.
The bridge where he enters the city:.
This is the rooftop building where Merle was handcuffed, then the loading docks where they backed the truck up to rescue everyone.
And the still from the show:
This is the street that Rick & Glenn walked down covered in zombie guts.
And from the show:
The department store doors:
And from the show:
The tall glass building where Rick saw the helicopter - forgive the bus windows in the way.
And in the show:
This was too fucking cool -- the quarry & lake (Westside Park - Bellwood Quarry) where the ladies washed clothes, Andrea & Amy fished, Shane beat Ed's face to a pulp, etc...
And in the show:
This is The Goat Farm & Artists Commune - better known to us as the Vatos nursing home.
These are the big doors that Rick, Daryl, and T-Dog went in to try to get Glen back.
And from the show:
We walked around the corner at the Goat Farm and there were these two people in lab coats -- they introduced themselves as Dr. So and So (can't remember) and told us they recommended we be inoculated against the virus, and of course we all gladly took our medicine (a very strong shot made with rum).
One of the coolest images of the day: the "hospital" door that Rick came out of in his hospital gown. The next pic is the parking lot across from that - remember he went up the hill to the lot and then saw the helicopter and all the carnage. This is actually the Atlanta Union Mission.
And from the show:
And of course, the "CDC" (Cobb Energy Center). Looks like they fixed the windows... lol
From the show:
The blonde dingbat ACTUALLY said, "Did they really blow this building up?!" (The same chick who was stumped at the word "CGI".) They were having some private function but I used my feminine wiles and talked my way in for a couple of pics.
The fence where Glenn was kidnapped by the Vatos & Daryl held the kid captive.
The AJC (newspaper) and 11Alive (local news program) showed up because this was the inaugural tour - the first time these people had ever done the zombie tour. I was interviewed and it showed up on the 6 pm news and the newspaper story is out now. Here’s a link to both :

It was by far one of the coolest, most fun things I've ever done. Sorry for such a long ass post, but I am a major fangirl nerd. So there you have it.
