Been incapacitated by a dose of the cold/mild flu for the past week, so have been doing a fair bit of watching..... Mostly re-watching as I've been drifting in and out of sleep. Here's some of the stuff that's been playing: (Lots of animated stuff - easy on tired eyes) Fast Five 10 000BC Shawshank Redemption Toy Story I & II Madagascar I & II UP Faster Mean Machine Get Him To The Greek Me, Myself and Irene How To Train Your Dragon The Hole RIO Drive Angry Scrubs (entire season 1 and 2 so far) From Dusk Til Dawn There's more but I can't remember right now..... How To Train Your Dragon was great by the way. Get Him To The Greek was very disappointing and slots right in to what passes for comedy these days. Random scenes thrown together, no real interesting story, characters you couldn't care less about and just a bunch of unnecessary sex and drug use. I guess it's funny in Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen/Jonah Hill's universe, but I for one certainly think comedy consists of more than "unexpected" cameos, huge dildos and "Oh no they di'int" scenes. I thought The Hangover was rubbish too by the way and have no intention whatsoever of watching the second one.

Speaking of Seth Rogen, I just watched 50/50 last night with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rogen. Went in to it knowing absolutely nothing about it (which is how I prefer to watch movies) and was quite surprised. When I first saw the names in the opening credits I thought it was gonna be another silly Seth Rogen movie. JGL is always a pleasure to watch, and the seriousness of the movie's topic was well balanced with Rogen's usual stoner/douchebag/teddybear antics. Probably not something I'd watch again any time soon but I liked it.

I've been tempted by 50/50 but I have no time for Seth Rogen!
May give it a look if he is bearable

He's more or less his usual self, but without him this movie would have been too depressing.
Give it a go. It's worth watching for JGL's performance.

Watched this (for the second time) last night. One of the best animated movies I reckon. Fun and wacky and good animation. Everyone raves on about UP but I think that's quite boring to be honest. Seen that a couple of times too and I got bored the last time I watched it. How To Train Your Dragon was also great by the way but I think I mentioned that earlier. I just discovered that I have The Hangover II on my Harddrive. I aquired a bunch of movies a while back and am slowly working my way through them. I know I said I didn't like the first one and have no intention of watching the second one, but I know curiosity will get the better of me eventually. I'll report back when/if/when I've watched it.

Wow. Went in to this knowing nothing about it (Yeah somehow I've managed not to hear anything about this film). In actual fact, for some strange reason I thought it was a silly comedy in the vein of Superbad, Kick-Ass or Meet The Spartans. I'm guessing it's recieved a lot of hate, as it's a Zack Snyder over the top slow motion super stylized fantasy comicbook style music video type cartoonish movie. But that's exactly what I love about it. (And same with The 300 by the way) That and the whole "what's going on and what's real and what's not real" theme.... See this is why I prefer not watching trailers, previews or movie reviews. The first 20 minutes or so I was like I don't think I even blinked once. ;D From the insanely gripping opening sequence to the part where all of a sudden the whole scenario and environment changes I was on the edge of my seat. Then it started to come together and sort of make sense but a bit further along it dawned on me what was really going on. So yeah. Just watched: SUCKER PUNCH About to watch: SUCKER PUNCH Definitely needs a second viewing.

I saw it and it wasn't the worst thing ever but they took something that was so incredibly simple and just expanded it so much that it became kind of a waste of film.
I understand that the crazy scenarios were in the comic book and that was basically its hook but it was so unnecessary. I think it finished in the bottom third of my list last year but I saw much worse things than it.

Not to double post, but I didn't want to steal Dirty's thunder.
In the last three weeks, I've watched about 45 movies but only three of them new.
Semi-spoilers:
"The Dark Knight Rises" which was good but I'll be damned if it didn't need to lose about 40 minutes off the runtime. Also, remind me again how Batman got back to Gotham after crawling out of that hole?
"Ted" which I really didn't like and couldn't wait for it to end. I don't believe it got a full laugh out of me but I did smile a couple times... during the hour and a half inside joke that "Ted" was.
Haywire was very plain and Antonio Banderas (playing Antonio Banderas) was utterly useless... kind of like half the movie.

I'm a hell of a movie reviewer, aren't I? =)

Boring as hell. Hated it. Very enjoyable family film. Awesome, again, but not quite as good (or as physical) as watching it at the cinema. Decent. This was one of my favourite films as a teenager that I've seen countless times, and it was good to see it again. Absolutely wonderful. I love all of the Powell and Pressburger films I've seen but I think this is the best one. The Kurosawa one, which I wasn't into that much. Kurosawa is a strange beast for me. If his films are famous, I love them, if they're not, I tend to lose interest halfway. I guess there's a reason why his more famous ones are more famous.

It's all good Blonde ;D I'm beginning to wonder what kind of movies you DO like though The cartoon style overbown FX movies clearly aren't for everyone, but I've always been easily amused by shiny things and love these movies for what they are - eyecandy. But I enjoy them just as much as an intelligent drama or any other kind of movie. Guess I'm more of a movie omnivore ;D

No biggie, Dirty. I re-watch the same 30-40 movies all the time. Every now and then, I need to sit down and watch the shiny stuff, too. =)

Well, the good: the characters have really good chemistry together, especially when they're bantering and arguing and the villain is extremely charismatic. Everyone plays their part well, particularly Stark and Hulk. Well sometimes, other times... The bad: they're wooden as hell, phoning in lines and staring blankly into the distance. The script never fulfills the characters potential and the actors behind them are good but instead they're wasted with Michael Bay-esque, pseudo-complicated expositional dialogue about tesseratomic nuclear sub-particle energetic fusion nodes and other shit which sounds impressive at first but starts to wear thin very quickly when you realise it's just a scientific dictionary being thrown at you and in the end means fuck all, not only to what's happening on screen but to the characters. The only human moment is when Loki threatens Black Widow and calls her a quim (I laughed out loud) and a single line said by Banner ("I'm always angry") before he hulks out, and lots of computer generated images of explosions and very boring looking aliens fly about the screen, sending me to sleep . Big words + green screen - characterisation = yawn.
